Position: Full Time Position in Food Systems; Assistant Professor, Tenure-Track

NYU’s Department of Nutrition, Food Studies, and Public Health is seeking candidates for a tenure-track position in food systems at the assistant professor level.  The position will begin September 1, 2013.

The NYU Food Studies program takes an interdisciplinary approach to studying food production and consumption, particularly in urban settings.  The program examines the complexities of supplying the city, including food distribution and transportation, water and waste management, and the rural-urban interface.  Policy and health issues are also germane to topics on urban food systems.

Qualifications:  Doctorate in related field, teaching experience, record of research.  We will consider candidates with a range of research interests, which may include: geography; sociology; urban studies and planning; environmental studies; waste and water management; agricultural policy and urban markets; agro-ecology; landscape design.

Responsibilities:The candidate is expected to teach in the undergraduate and master’s programs, supervise PhD’s, mentor post-docs and conduct funded scholarship in food studies in the urban and global context.  The candidate will be expected to be an active, accomplished teacher and to engage in the intellectual life of the program and the department.

The position offers opportunities for collaboration not only within the Department but with other Steinhardt programs including those in health, culture, and education, as well as with University-wide initiatives on public health and on cities and urban environments.
