Overview
This project sought to address IPM constraints including lack of available sources of resistance to the cotton leafhopper and few eggplant germplasm sources resistant to the eggplant borer.
Objectives
1. To generate and screen crosses obtained from the hybridization work 2. To conduct replicated trials of eggplant for resistance to leafhopper and shoot/fruit borer in UPLB and Bantog, Asingan, Pangasinan under protected and unprotected conditions; 3. To continue to confirm the reaction of selected eggplant varieties/lines under greenhouse conditions.
Outcomes
This study will confirm the reaction of selected 24 eggplant varieties to the leafhopper and shoot/fruit borer in two locations and their corresponding yield performance. This will further provide information to help us and the breeders select good parental lines now included in the on-going hybridization work. The introduction of these different eggplant varieties and the HPR crop-pest management concept in two locations conducted at farmers' field will provide an alternative insect control approach against the two insect pests.
