Abstract: Because of its value as a food and oil source, an animal feed, and its adaptability to a wide range of soil and climatic conditions, groundnut has spread from its origin in South America to most countries within the boundaries of 40 deg N and 40 deg S latitudes. Groundnut is an important crop in the semi-arid tropics, that produces about 65% of the world crop. Production in the semi-arid tropics is constrained by socioeconomic, biological, and environmental factors.
