Description
Abstract: The Livestock Climate Change Collaborative Research Support Program commissioned a report in 2012 to review nutrition as a cross-cutting research theme in LCC CRSP research projects and Feed the Future country plans.
LCC CRSP special adviser Dr. Grace Marquis (McGill University, Canada) reviewed the inclusion of nutrition in the objectives of Feed the Future (FtF) country plans for LCC CRSP focus countries. The resulting report is a desk review of the current gaps and opportunities for nutrition research.
Dr. Marquis concluded that capacity building at research institutes and universities in the FtF countries was fundamental: “With few exceptions, there is a dearth of advanced training in nutrition in Africa. The ability of sub-Saharan Africa to move forward in a sustainable manner requires trained professionals in the related fields. The CRSP should pay special attention to training mechanisms at the undergraduate and graduate level of committed staff to build the long-term local research capacity.”
