Overview
This project sought to study mass-rearing and parasitism efficiency of the egg parasitoid. Parasitoids of eggplant Fruit and Shoot Borere (FSB) are available in the field and they are known to be effective for the control eggplant FSB. Utilization of the parasitoids for the control of FSB will greatly cut down the use of pesticides and help produce healthy eggplants free of toxic residues.
Objectives
To study mass-rearing and parasitism efficiency of the egg parasitoid,Trichogramma chilonis, for the control of eggplant fruit and shoot borer, and mass-rearing of eggplant fruit and shoot borer.
Outcomes
Methods have been developed for multiplication eggplant FSB and its egg parasitoid in large numbers. In laboratory tests, the parasitoid caused as high as 76% parasitism of FSB eggs. Augmentation and conservation of the parasitoid by avoiding pesticide use in eggplant crops can effectively contribute to sustainable control of FSB.
