Description
This poster introduces preliminary research regarding participatory mapping in an effort to provide a methodological design for future research which combines scientific knowledge with local and gendered knowledge. Throughout 2009-2010, participants in Mali, Ghana, Uganda, Philippines,Ecuador, and Kenya were asked information necessary to create a local map, including soil type and quality. In most countries, this information was also gendered to illustrate the differences in knowledge and access between men and women. Recommendations for future research featured the inclusion of GIS, soil samples, and enthnographer-farmer collaboration.
