Description
Abstract: Economic, cultural, and environmental factors constrain Ghanaian caregivers’ ability to offer animal source foods (ASF) to their children, resulting in diets of low protein and micronutrient density. We explored the association between dietary ASF diversity and anthropometric indicators among 2- to 5-y-old children living in 2 rural (N=64) and 2 peri- urban (N=142) communities in a coastal district of Ghana. Data were collected through interviewer-administered survey questionnaires. The prevalence of stunting among the peri-urban children was more than twice that of the rural children (35% vs. 15%, respectively; P<0.01). Rural children consumed a wider variety of ASF in the week before the interview as compared to the peri-urban children (3.6
