There are rising global challenges with respect to vegetable production: -Rising populations, especially in urban areas -Land degradation and water scarcity -Pesticide abuse -Widespread malnutrition This presentation address the global concern for food safety and the challenges faced in sustainable production of safe and nutritious vegetables. It Outlines the current research being conducted at AVRDC including forms of pest management, including irrigation control, sex pheromones, biological control of predators, parasitoids, pathogens, as well as integrated disease management. The presentation also discusses fertilizer management.
