Abstract: The objectives of this study was to review the state of grow-out production for giant river prawns (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) in Thailand, assess the perceived ecological impacts of the industry, and suggest avenues by which farmers might adopt more environmentally sound culture systems. A socioeconomic and technical survey of 100 prawn farmers was conducted during 1 May to 31 July 2005 in Thailand. The majority of respondents were male (70%) and average age was 46
