Overview
The overall objective of this research was to further the understanding of the biological interactions between Striga and its hosts, and to devise control strategies based on host resistance. In addressing our goal of developing sorghum cultivars that are resistant to Striga, we emphasize the vital roles of the multiple signals exchanged between the parasite and its hosts, which coordinate their life cycles. To develop control strategies based on host-plant resistance, we employ integrated biotechnological approaches combining biochemistry, tissue culture, plant genetics and breeding, and molecular biology.
