INTSORMIL conducted on-farm demonstrations of existing technology in collaboration with international partners in Senegal, Mali and Niger to determine which improved technologies to introduce to farmers and which new markets must be developed to avoid price collapses from increasing output levels. With the Introduction of improved seed, inorganic fertilizer and improved agronomic practices, farmers following agronomic recommendations consistently doubled yields. With increased productivity the demands on markets for process foods and feed also increased and the INTSORMIL Marketing-Processing Project in collaboration with West African national programs focused on the improvement of a supply of consistent, quality grains as well as the promotion of millet as a food source.
