Description
INTSORMIL entomologist Bonnie Pendelton from West Texas A&M University has collaborated with African scientists to develop management strategies for sorghum and millet pests. With an emphasis on developing plants resistance to pests, hundreds of sorghum and pear millet genotypes have been evaluated in INTSORMIL scientists for grain yield and quality and resistance to insects in Botswana, Mali, Mozambique, Niger, South Africa and the United States. The IPM approach utilized by the researches has resulted in reduced usage of expensive, toxic and environmentally harmful pesticides.
