Overview

This project addressed the goal of supporting periurban export horticulture by providing technical support to the Environmental Quality Laboratory (EQL) and delivering pesticide safety lessons to agricultural educators. In 2003,

twenty OHVN employees (including 12 village- based technicians) and representatives of two export companies attended a two-day pesticide safety education program. These two approaches consolidate key elements of a quality assurance system for horticultural crop exports. Pesticide residue analysis provides information on both the current performance and potential improvements of the

technologies used in this production system. Pesticide Safety Education (PSE) provides the educational resources to enable farmers to safely and effectively apply pesticides as part of an integrated IPM strategy.
